BGE Biology

As indicated on the previousl webpage, the Broad General Education is designed to prepare pupils for the Senior Phase where they can study one or more Science subjects at National 3, 4 or 5. In addition to knowledge of Biology pupils will learn investigative skills and be encouraged to critically assess the advances made in science and their impact on the world at large. Problem Solving skills are also an important part of scientific enquiry and many opportunities are provided to enhance these skills.

There are three course units in S3:

            Cell Biology - Cell Structure, DNA, Cell Division, Microbes and their uses, Enzymes, Photosynthesis and Respiration

            

            Multicellular Organisms - Body Systems, Health, Reproduction, Growth and Development of Living Things, Reponding to

                                                    Internal and External Stimuli, Passing on Genetic Information, Body Defences,

                                                    Plants and their Commerical Uses

                     

            Life on Earth - Interaction of Organisms in an Ecosystem, Sampling the Ecosystem, Nitrogen Cycle,

                                    Impact of man on the environment, Biodiversity, Adaption and Survival.
