  • To stimulate and sustain pupils interest in the study of Biology.
  • To develop knowledge and understanding of Biology.
  • To provide opportunities for pupils to apply their knowledge and understanding in a variety of situations.
  • To develop problem solving and investigative skills.
  • To promote an understanding of Biology related to local and global issues.
  • To encourage pupils to develop a mature, diligent attitude and approach to study and work.
  • To establish and maintain links with other departments and external agencies in order to exchange ideas, information, techniques and materials to actively promote the teaching and learning process.

 

The department’s aims have been formulated as a result of discussions and are shared by all Biology staff.

The department’s aims are consistent with the aims of the school and focus on the importance of Biology in our lives, on improving attainment and educational provision for learners.

This statement of aims provides a framework for policy development and clear reference points for evaluating the work of the department.
