Junior Sports Leader Award
The Junior Sports Leader Course develops skills for learning like analysing and evaluating, skills for work like communicating and problem solving and skills for life such as listening and taking responsibility for yourself and others. Physical Education embraces all aspects of leadership. Therefore a sports lead award is the obvious way to nurture self confidence and self esteem and develop abilities in relation to leadership.
The Impact and Benefit of the Course
- Develops the four capacities
- Encourage volunteering in school community and beyond
- Links with Sport Scotland Active Schools and sports ambassadors.
- Mentors/Buddies as role models which will have an impact on behaviour, raising attainment and an increase in positive role models.
- No yearly accreditation or cost per pupil to external body therefore sustainable.
- Sustainable as it will improve both school/local environment.
- Fulfils all aspects of CFE.
- Choice of challenges give pupils individual control of own learning.
- Variety of learning experiences and teaching approaches.
- Develops enterprising activities such as fundraising and tournaments.
- Improves employability skills i.e. Managing time, Planning, Organising, Communicating etc.
- Recognition of pupil achievement by incorporating into an end of year award ceremony.
