BE ALL YOU CAN BE

S2 Modern Languages Curriculum

CfE French - time allocation = 3 periods per week

•In S2, we use Métro pour l’Ecosse Vert as the core text. A large number of supplementary materials, some developed by staff, some commercially produced, are also available. Teachers use ICT regularly in class; and active and cooperative learning strategies are employed often.

•Learners are usually working at Third Level when they start S2 and many will progress through many of the Experiences and Outcomes of Third Level as they  move through S2. Some will also start work on the Experiences and Outcomes of Fourth Level.

•Progress is monitored on an on-going basis, allowing more able learners to be stretched, while, at the same time, enabling each young person to develop to his or her full potential. Formative assessment strategies are used in S2 as well as some summative tests.

Spanish Language and Studies Elective - time allocation = 1 period per week

Spanish is an important language, spoken by more than 400 million people worldwide.  This elective will introduce young people to various aspects of Spanish language and culture. It is divided into 3 parts.

In the first term, the learners will study some of the basics of the Spanish language, including colours, numbers, food and drink, weather and pets.  By the end of this term they should be able to express personal information about themselves, such as their name, age, birthday, and where they live.

In the second term, we will look at various aspects of Spanish culture, such as the people and geography of Spain, Spanish festivals, music, sports and cuisine.

In the final term, the focus will change to South America.  The bulk of this term will be given to a presentation prepared by pairs of learners on a South American country chosen by them, which they will then present to the rest of the class.
