E-cigarettes & Vaping
Vaping the use of electronic devices (vape, e-cigarette or e-cig) to inhale a vapour extracted from a liquid which has been heated. The vape is battery operated and heat the liquid until it becomes an aerosol (mist) which is then inhaled. The aerosol is not just water. It usually contains nicotine, other potentially harmful chemicals and artificial flavourings.
Some vapes/e-cigarettes are disposable and designed for one-time use. Once the liquid is used up or the battery dies, the user throws the device away. Others can be refilled with liquid, recharged, and used over and over. Some people buy pre-filled cartridges for the e-cigarette. Others buy a bottle of liquid and refill the e-cigarette as needed.
Vapes/e-cigarettes are becoming increasingly more popular amongst young people who are not smokers or former smokers. Most devices that young people use are disposable vapes/e-cigarettes. They are often brightly coloured and come in a variety of flavours that appeal directly to young people e.g. Sour Raspberry, Cotton Candy, Blueberry, Cola, etc...
The sale of vapes/e-cigarettes containing nicotine to under 18s is prohibited.
