Cleveden's Commonwealth Contribution

Queen's Baton Bearer

In preparation for Glasgow's Commonwealth Games during the summer of 2014, the Queen's Baton Relay travelled around all the commonwealth, visiting 70 different nations and territories.  It's journey through the commonwealth to reach Scotland took 248 days and covered a distance of 190,000 kilometres.  It arrived in Scotland on the 14th June and for the next 40 days,  it travelled the length and breadth of the country visiting 400 villages, towns and cities.  Throughout the journey,  everyone from the local communities visited was asked to be involved and be a part of the celebration in the countdown to the start of the games.

With up to 4,000 batonbearers joining the relay in more than 400 communities, this was Scotland’s biggest ever relay. The Queen’s Baton visited all 32 Local Authorities, with up to 100 batonbearers carrying Her Majesty’s message on a daily basis.

At Cleveden, we were very fortunate to have one of our own pupils, Ross Young S6, to be nominated and selected to be a baton bearer.  On 21st July, Ross carried the baton 200m.
